{Let's Get Cookin'} Cheesy Tomato and Bacon Omelette

Hiya all!

I just wanted to share what I prepared for lunch today. As the title suggests, I made an omelette which I filled with tomato, bacon and cheese! I also love to have this for breakfast! Yum!

I wasn't actually planning to post a recipe today. But, heck, why not? Besides, it is soooo easy to do!

Ingredients:
  • 2 eggs (if the eggs are too small, you can use 3)
  • 2-3 tablespoon-full of cooked bacon (not cooked to crispiness though)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced (3 tomatoes if they are too small)
  • Grated Cheese (you could use cheddar or any choice of cheese you want, but quickmelt cheese works best)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:
  1. Saute onions in a pan with a little bit of oil. Cook until semi translucent.
  2. Add in tomatoes. Cook until softened, but not too soft that the skin starts to separate from the tomatoes. We do not want that. :)
  3. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  4. Beat eggs and add a little bit of salt.
  5. In a non-stick pan (I believe that the size we have is 6". Although I am not sure. But what I use is a small non-stick/teflon pan that is perfect for omelettes! But any size would work) and add eggs.
  6. Tilt the pan from side to side to coat the pan with the eggs and cook until the eggs seems dried up on top. (I hope this is understandable, haha!)
  7. When the top has dried, make sure to lower the heat to the lowest setting so that you don't cook the eggs to fast, as we will be placing the ingredients on top with the flame still on.
  8. Start to layer the tomatoes on one half of the egg, followed by the bacon, then grated cheese.
  9. Fold the omelette in half to cover the filling.
  10. Transfer to a plate. (It is best to slide it off the pan onto the plate).
And, that is it! Sorry, I am no pro in composing a recipe post. Haha! I know this has 10 steps, but believe me, it takes so little time to make!

I hope you give this a try!

Have a hearty lunch, everyone!

Cheers!

{Review} Puerto Princesa Hotel Accommodation: Deep Forest Garden Inn

Hiya again, everyone!

Here is my next installment in my series of Puerto Princesa posts. This post will cover our stay at our choice of accommodation. And, that is Deep Forest Garden Inn.

Before I officially start, let me warn you that I am no professional at making reviews. But, I will try my best to give as much info possible which could help you guys out if you plan to go visit Puerto Princesa. :)

So, let's start...

So, next to being able to book a flight to Palawan, the first thing we searched for is accommodation. Of course, we would like to make sure that when we got there, we got a place to stay. After looking through many inns and hotels, we decided to go for Deep Forest Garden Inn.
Source: Deep Forest Garden Inn
See how beautiful the whole of Deep Forest Garden Inn is? Just one look and we were automatically drawn to it. The one thing we were looking for in our accommodation is a pool, since I was not so sure if there was a beach to go to or if I would be able to with BabyLove around. So, a pool was convenient.

Located in Palawan, the hotel is situated on the Abueg Road and only 3 minutes away from the airport. Boasting 18 well-appointed guestrooms and suites, all were tastefully furnished with wireless internet access, flat screen cable TV, air-conditioning, toiletries, and private bathroom with hot and cold shower. Guests can dine at the onsite restaurant where a variety of delicious cuisines are served. The services available onsite includes massage services, tours, car rental, and ticket reconfirmation services. Offering quality accommodation with excellent facilities, Deep Forest Garden Inn is an ideal place to stay during for a wonderful vacation in Puerto Princesa.

Room rates and room inclusions can be viewed here.

The room we got was a Deluxe Room (Php 1,900 per night) since it was the cheapest! Haha! Pretty understandable, right? :P

Booking

We booked straight from the website. We tried booking it at Agoda, thinking it was cheaper. However, upon summing up service charges and fees (if I am not mistaken), it still added up to the room rates. So, before you book straight from Agoda, make sure you check both rates from the site as well as the hotel's site (if available).

Facilities and Amenities

I loved the pool! Use of pool and jacuzzi is already included with the room rate. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enjoy the pool that much because BabyLove is scared of pools or bodies of water larger than her small little tub here at home! Hahaha! I wanted to enjoy the chess pool, but unfortunately, was not able to. Haha! Oh well. Pool bar was also great. Pool was also kept very clean. Two thumbs up to that.

Room was always made up everyday. We always get back with a made up room.

Tours

Deep Forest Garden Inn actually has its own tour agency, Tourister. Of course, this should be convenient as we won't have any problems finding some other agency to book our tours by the time we got there. However, our experience was not so good when it comes to this agency. Below are the reasons:
  1. After successfully booking our accommodation, they told us that they'd contact us within 24 hours to confirm our tour bookings. But, we did not receive any call, after 24 and so hours. We had to call them instead!
  2. Emails were not clear. As in! We had to send so much emails before we got the answer we needed.
  3. A day before our flight, we called again to confirm our tours. And, they said that we just settle them on-site! How convenient, right?!
  4. When we got there, as expected, none of our tours are booked! To add to that, we have lost hope in the Underground River tour. Why? Well, they said that they (the agency) could not secure an environmental permit for us anymore since we should've done that a month before. And, we booked a month (or even more) before our flight! So, they told us that we had to get the permit ourselves, personal appearance! Goodness, that was their job!
We nearly had to take care of our tours ourselves! That was supposed to be their job, as we don't have that time to get the permit ourselves since we were only staying for a few days!

Oh well, enough of the bad side.

Luckily, during my Irawan Canopy Zipline tour, the agency in charge of that tour knew that I still haven't booked a tour for Underground River. And luckily, she offered their agency's service and mentioned that they will secure the permit for us! Yay! Problem solved!

Food

Unfortunately, the hotel does not include breakfast in their room package, so food was an extra expense. You can order from the hotel, though. It's a bit pricey, but trust me, food was great! And, servings were enough for two! If you aren't like me who eats a lot, then a plate would benefit 2 people! Nothing I could say about food. It was worth the price!

Transportation

Since Deep Forest Garden Inn was way off the downtown area, you can't just walk your way to groceries or restaurants. However, trikes are available within the vicinity of the hotel. It costs Php 60 for daytime, and Php 80 for 6pm onwards. But, if you hail a trike at downtown area, some would just charge you just Php 50, even during night time! They say that that is the normal rate that they should really charge you. ;) So, quick tip. Just note that this may not be a problem at the downtown area, but, I doubt that this would apply for trikes within the vicinity of the hotel or inn. ;)

Some side notes

This has nothing to do with accommodation, but I thought I'd share since I mentioned transportation. At the downtown area, we went to a grocery/department store called NCCC Department Store (if I am not mistaken). Do take note that they close at 7pm! Yes, even the food stall seen outside the department store close at that time. So, if you need to do some quick grocery shopping, make sure you make it earlier, or else it would close down before you know it! Haha!

A Robinson's Place mall has just been recently constructed at Puerto Princesa, but it was far from where we were staying.

There isn't any but one coffee place at Puerto Princesa called Itoy's Coffee Shop. We were craving for coffee, but we only knew about the place a day before we went home. :( No Starbucks, no other coffee shops other than that. So, if you are a coffee lover like me, then I think this would  be a little bit of an issue! Haha! But, Itoy's does serve yummy coffee and frappes!

So, last thoughts...

What I
     :
  • The place was in a semi-isolated area. The place was also full of trees. Just as the name of the Inn suggest, it really sure feels like you are in a forest. Really relaxing with greens all around you. If you are looking for a place to escape the city life, then this is the perfect place for you!
  • Yummy food at the hotel!
  • Very friendly staff.
  • Room was made up everyday. We always come back from our tours to a made up room.
What I loathe:
  • Customer service via email wasn't that good. As mentioned earlier, we had to go through numerous emails before they gave the answer we needed. This often lead to miscommunication.
  • To add to previous entry, grammar was a bit problematic, so we had problems understanding their emails once in a while.
  • Also, staff who answered calls were locals, so we often do not understand what they say. It would have been better if they had at least one who could speak fluent and clear English.
  • Poor service of in-house travel agency.
Despite the things I dislike, I still definitely will book my stay at Deep Forest Garden Inn on my next visit to Palawan (which could probably take years before it happens again! Haha!). I was really satisfied, despite the trouble here and there. It was all in all a great place to stay at!

If some of the questions you had in mind was not answered below, do leave them in the comments below, and I will get back to each one as soon as I can. :)

I hope this did not bore you, instead, I hope it is useful for some of you. :) 'Til my next Palawan post!

Cheers!

{Precious Moments} My thoughts on our trip to Puerto Princesa

Hello everyone!!!

I have finally decided to blog about our trip to Puerto Princesa, Palawan. I am only using my phone right now, so pardon me for any mistyped words or grammatical errors you may spot here and there. Trust me, it is hard to compose a blog post with such a small screen and touch typing. Whew! But, here goes...

So, we've just been to Puerto Princesa last weekend until Tuesday as a way of celebrating my birthday. :-) Let me tell you, it was a blast!!! This is, by far, the best birthday celebration.

It all started when we booked a flight via AirPhil Express during their 2 peso fair promo. I stayed up all night just to secure a booking. Haha. I am all about thrifty travelling. I was able to book a flight from Clark to Puerto Princesa for me, my BabyLove and for my mom.

Now, all that's left is accommodation. After looking through so many hotels and inns, we have finally decided on booking our stay at Deep Forest Garden Inn. It's kind of located in a secluded place, but, since we wanted to escape the city life, we thought it was perfect! Also, it had a pool as well, so no need for us to get out to enjoy a swim. We got a Deluxe Room which cost Php 1, 900/night. Review can be found here, wherein I discuss the place more in detail. ;)

Tours we've booked are as follows:
Honda Bay Island Hopping - Php 1, 340 each
Irawan Canopy Zipline - Php 1, 100 each
Underground River Tour - Php 1, 540 each
City Tour - Php 600 each
* Prices may differ, depending on the agency you are booking your tours with. :)

All tours include van transfers, professional and licensed tour guides, boat travel (for island hopping and underground river tour), and lunch/snacks (except for City tour), entrance fees, environmental fees. :) Again, I will go through each on a separate post. Watch out for that. :)

Unfortunately, our hotel booking does not include breakfast or lunch, so we have to buy food. Hotel food was really good for its price (I will cover it on my hotel review that will follow soon). Nothing bad I can say about hotel food.

The people were really nice. So honest and humble. Everywhere you look, you see trees and greens, which is really refreshing to the eyes!

I especially loved the tricycles at Palawan! Haha! Photos will follow on a separate post as I have so many to share! I will compile them into a slideshow so that it won't have to take a lot of time to load, and would not take up a whole page. :)

Also, at Palawan, I've developed a love for ziplining! I promised myself that from then on, I will experience as much ziplines as I can. Only through ziplining have I forgotten about my fear of heights, even as I stand by a ledge. Not to mention such a wonderful view from above: the Irawan Canopy itself, the rivers which you could see running down the stream which is so clear. I was almost in the verge of crying as I saw how wonderful the place is and how the people take care of their environment.

My final thoughts for now (I have a lot to follow! :P)

Not enough words can express my appreciation for Puerto Princesa, Palawan. A thought keeps running through my head goes like this:
They have so little, yet they can settle with what they have. We have almost everything, yet we never learn how to settle with what we have.
By that, what do I really mean? People in Palawan live such a simple life. They have half of our minimum wage, yet they don't complain. They have higher gas prices, yet they never complain. They live by planting in their backyards, help their neighbors, live in such simple homes, yet all you hear from them is nothing but good.

That is what I envy them for. I wish everyone think the way they do. Yet, I also think it is a case-to-case basis. They have little which they have learned to settle with.

Also, you will find in Palawan that they don't have a lot of buildings and products we often find in the city. An example are mosquito repellent patches which I was looking for at the time of our stay for my BabyLove. And, they humbly say that those type of products have not reached Palawan yet. Also, they don't have POS systems or registers yet in their downtown department store. Oh, and before I forget, their downtown department store and supermarket close at 7:00pm! Goodness! We had to rush and get some groceries before it closed. Robinson's Place has just been constructed and opened recently, so not much stores are open yet. Besides, it's out of our way, so we did not have a chance to go.

One thing I also missed at Palawan are coffee shops! Being a coffee lover (as well as my mom), we were thirsting for gourmet coffee. However, there isn't any but one, Itoy's Coffee Shop which is popular at Puerto Princesa. We have only been there once, on our last night. :( How I wish we knew about it earlier. Well, it isn't our first and last visit. Next time, we know better! :)

I still have a lot on my mind, but I will end it here for now. :) More parts to follow, particularly detailed info on our hotel and the tour packages. Let me know if this appeals to you or not! Haha! Sorry for the lengthy post. I just can't help but share!

{BC Bloggers Meme} 30 Things About Me

BC_BLOGGERS
Finally, I get to post for this week's meme, '30 Things About Me'. And, our host for this week is none other than Sanna! Congratulations on your 2nd meme blog hosting for this month. :) Head on over to her blog to join in the fun.

This week's topic is really interesting. I think 30 things would not be enough, but anyways, will try my best to come up with the more important ones. Haha! I can't wait to read everyone else's post as well.

So, here is my list of '30 things about me'. Hope it does not bore you out. Haha!

  1. I am an only girl in the family, with 2 brothers. I did play with cars and action figures, but I am no tomboy! Haha!
  2. I am very shy and timid, especially around people I do not know.
  3. I love to read! I started reading kiddie novels at a really early age. If my memory serves me correctly, at age 4 or 5, I started reading kiddie novels. I can spend the whole day reading if there is no TV or computers.
  4. My nickname 'Yhey' wasn't a childhood nickname at all. It all started when I was in high school. It was originally 'Mayey', which actually is Marielle pronounced by children (I guess) when they cannot talk straight. From then on, schoolmates and a few of my relatives call me Yhey or Yey. :)
  5. I play the guitar, although have not been able to lately.
  6. I eat a lot!!! But...
  7. I am thin, then and now, no matter how much I eat. Hahaha!
  8. I love watching movies. I can spend the whole day watching TV.
  9. I also love watching TV series, specifically crime and mystery series. I also love watching One Tree Hill, Pretty Little Liars, Grey's Anatomy, and the list goes on! Haha!
  10. I love going places, but...
  11. I have motion sickness. Car, Air, and Water sickness. >.< Yep, I get really dizzy on our trips.
  12. I love arts and crafts such as scrapbooking and handmade card making.
  13. I LOVE COFFEE! Hot, frappes, whatever. I love coffee dates or trips to the cafe, even if I have to go on my own.
  14. I am vain and love putting on makeup.
  15. I also love styling my hair and hair dressing myself. Haha!
  16. I love Italian food such as pasta and pizza. Which leads to #17.
  17. I LOVE LASAGNA! Just like Garfield.
  18. My favorite sea creature is a dolphin.
  19. As nerdy as it sounds, I love going to museums and zoos.
  20. I love nature tripping!
  21. I have just recently developed a love for ziplining!
  22. I still love watching kiddie shows and movies such as Sesame Street, Elmo's World, Barney, etc. Haha.
  23. For movies that were made based on a book, I like to read the book first before watching the movie.
  24. I love going out for short strolls with my BabyLove whenever I can.
  25. I love making food myself, especially sushi, pasta and desserts!
  26. I still love the color pink. :D
  27. Dark chocolates are my fave comfort food!
  28. Milk Tea is also one of my comfort drinks. Haha!
  29. I love cutie little things and stationery.
  30. I love commenting back to each and every comment I receive on my blog. :D
So, there you have it guys. I look forward to reading your list as well. Let me know what you think on the comments below.

Cheers!

I'm back with a hangover and good news...

Hello bloggers!!!!

I missed you all! My goodness. I have been itching to get my hands on my laptop to blog since yesterday when our plane touched down, but I still feel so bad from our flight (yes, I have air sickness, and car sickness and boat sickness.) Actually, I still feel really dizzy right now, but I can't help but tell you guys that I am back.

And, as for the good news, I have finally got a job while I was away!!! I feel so ecstatic right now. I would want to jump a lot, but I still feel dizzy to do so! Haha!

For all those who have left their greeting, thank you all so much. My birthday sure was a blast! :D Every year, it gets better and better. I will try to get back to each of your comments as soon as I can. ;)

I will be putting up and arranging posts, probably into parts. Maybe a review or two on food, restos and accommodations (let me know if that interests you, especially for those who haven't been there yet. I wouldn't want to post something that may bore you. Haha!).

I also can't wait to share photos I have got! There are a whole bunch, but I will try to share as much as I could without boring you out. :)

So, yep. Watch out for my future posts. I will also be doing my post for this week's BC Bloggers' Meme, so my Palawan posts would have to wait a day or two. :)

Again, I miss you all!

Cheers!

{Day Out} Thrifty Shopping

Who doesn't love cheap yet quality finds, right? I always (well, at least) try to find great items with a not so really great price (if you know what I mean! Haha!). So, today, me, my BabyLove and my parents went out to go for a day out of thrifty shopping! Some items I wanted to look for were stuff I could wear or use for our trip to Palawan next week for my birthday. Yay! Check out the photos of some of the things I got from our shopping. ;)

{BC Bloggers Meme} Photo Story Telling

Alrighty! I am pretty much excited for this week's meme. This is also my chance to share this photo of my BabyLove which I wanted to share months ago. Haha. This week's topic is being hosted by Shadz on her blog, Toned Down and Vintage. So, make sure you head on over there and join in the fun! The blog post rules is: "Post a photo or photos in your blog, let the readers write their own stories, interpretations, what-have-yous on the photo". Pretty easy, right?

So, this is the photo I wanted to share because of my BabyLove's interesting expression on her face. Haha! I'd like to know what you can come up with as to what she 'might' be thinking or have in mind. This sure is going to be a fun topic! Looking forward to seeing others' post. :)

{Shutter Day Share} Blabbering Gets BabyLove KOed

Here's today's Shutter Day Share. The story behind the photo below is that my BabyLove was blabbering just minutes before this photo was taken, and suddenly, everything went quiet. And when I looked at her, she was already sound asleep! Hahaha! I LOVE it when that happens. :P

{Shutter Day Share} 50th/Golden Birthday Explosion Gift Box

Hiya all!

Here is another of my shutter day share which is another craft project of mine. Last July 4, my tita celebrated her 50th birthday (or golden birthday). And I thought that it was another perfect time to give out an explosion box which would serve as my birthday card as well. Here are 2 of the photos I got on my phone. Head on to my craft blog (Thrifty Crafty Things) for more of my crafts. I will be updating that blog and posting more pictures showing close-ups of the box. :) For the meantime, here's what I got.

I made it in gold and brown tones to match her golden birthday. Tell me what you think! :)

{BC Bloggers Meme} Count Your Blessings

Time flies by so fast. Who would've thought this is already the third time I am participating in BC Bloggers' Meme topic of the week. And for this week, Daddy Yoshiro is hosting the meme, so you can head on over to his blog to participate.

This week's topic is 'Count Your Blessings'. For the fair few followers I have on my blog, you might have read on a post before this that a very [un]pleasant surprise came my way yesterday. So, I guess this is the perfect time that I should count on my blessings instead of crying over spilled milk.:) Below is 5 of the things I am thankful for for the past week. It can be as shallow or as deep. I count even the shallowest of blessings. ;)

My part-time job

Despite losing my highest paying job due to certain reasons, I am very much thankful that I still have the part-time job the same employer has left me. My employer has been very good to me and even considered leaving me the secondary job I work for. Although what I earn is only 1/4 of what I used to earn, still, I am thankful that I am not totally jobless. That, I am most thankful for!

Having a great employer

In line with the first item, I am very much blessed to have such a wonderful employer. He's the most considerate of the bunch I have worked with and there is nothing bad I could say about him. If not for him, I would be 100% jobless right now!

Getting through the week while the parents are out for work

It's already a tough job to be a single mom, and an even tougher job taking over the house while my parents go about their work. I have two other brothers who are still dependent and wouldn't lend a helping hand with house chores. But, heck, as they say: "Boys will always be boys". Haha. I do the cooking, washing the dishes, and whatever chores I need to get done.

Enjoying a night with coffee with my parents and my BabyLove

Just last Saturday (if I am not mistaken), we went out to a nearby coffee shop to enjoy a glass of frappe. We headed out to fetch my mama from work and went straight to the coffee shop just a few steps away from the terminal. There, we ordered some frappes and fries for BabyLove. Nothing beats spending time with the family.

Having new friends from the blogging community

Since I joined the Meme topics, I have met wonderful bloggers and visited their blogs to leave comments. I never thought I would enjoy it this much. I love how I receive words of comfort from people who relates to my posts. Definitely, that I am thankful for! Not only do I get comments from the meme topic posts, but I also get comments from my other random rants. So, worth thanking for!

Update: Movie Date with BabyLove

Last Thursday, me and my BabyLove went out for a movie date (and her first time ever to watch a movie at the cinemas). It was kind of impromptu actually. She saw the trailer of Madagascar 3 on TV and was dancing to Marty's song 'Afro Circus' (I LOVE that song. Haha! I have LSS with that song!). And so, the very next day, we went out to watch it. :D I also purchased an e-Plus card as well, so that watching movies with her won't be a hassle anymore. :D

That is my very simple list. I do hope you enjoyed. Looking forward to reading the other meme posts. Can't wait!

An [Un]pleasant Surprise

I know that this week has just barely started, yet I can say that it has not been treating my nicely. Right at this moment, I am feeling so frustrated and depressed. I guess it's all the small little things piling up and it's now that it has taken its toll on me.

One of the reasons I get all stressed out is the fact that I am just a mother of one, yet it's as if I take care of 3 little kids. I am the eldest in the family, and two of my brothers still depend on me when at home. I do the house chores aside from taking care of my BabyLove and working. So, yes, my whole day is loaded. Can you imagine how frustrating that is? But, I always push my frustrations aside and think positive of it. Besides, I'm the eldest and the only girl, so who else would do the chores, right?

Another reason why everything seems to have been crashing down on me is the fact that I just lost one of my jobs today. For those who don't know it, I work online through oDesk. I currently have two, one is my main job and another part-time, both for the same employer. My employer just got home from their vacation, and I get a message from them that they have to let me go from one of my jobs due to certain reasons. I still get to keep the part-time job though. He's a really good employer and there is nothing bad I could say about him.

Although he did mention he'd hire me again once there is an opportunity, I still can't help feel down and depressed. I was caught off-guard. Mainly because my salary now is just 1/4 of what I used to earn. So, imagine how hard that is. And, right now, I still haven't got over the situation.

Nevertheless, I am trying to keep my hopes up. I'm sure something is bound to be a better replacement for what I have lost. I am already applying once again for another job, and hopefully I get accepted to at least one of them.

I also am looking for something to cheer me up. I guess eating a bar of chocolate or making my favorite ice-cold drink would get me out of this sadness. Any suggestions?

Well, 'til my next post then. Thanks for reading through my rant. I do appreciate you taking the time to do so. :)

Cheers!>
